Yesterday we forgot the weights - shame on us ! Therefore you will get the newest weights today. But I guess that could be the last time if we do not manage to get a new scale until next week. If you look at Roffe's, Arn's and Tova's weights, you will see that they will be to heavy for our 5 kg scale when they continue to grow so fast...

Alfa - day 36

Today the puppies are 5 weeks old. By now they really occupy every single place on the first floor of this house and outside in the garden, spending only little time in their whelping box.
We also removed the enclosure around it as it lost it's use. So if they do not play and try to destroy our socks, shoes and other items on the floor, they are lying around in every room and sleep in their old "lair" only at night.
Isa and Skadi now share the job of education without any restriction - this means that Skadi gives Isa free rein to do with the pups whatever she thinks is necessary. One week ago she still controlled that Isa did not do to much and often intervened when the pups screamed.
This slowly grown "confidence" from Skadi's side leads to a much more relaxed behavior of Isa - for the first time since the birth of the puppies she seems to be happy now!
All kinds of tention during the last weeks gave way for a new harmony.

What a fine weather we had today - anyhow the puppies were very lazy and spent most of the time in the house sleeping. However I got some nice shots with my camera - I think I have made around 40 GB of pictures since the pups were born. So it seems I have to buy a new external hard disk tomorrow...
We will provide all future owners with a DVD containing pictures of their new familiy member from birth to the handing over, showing the whole development day by day.
We think this is a nice thing and we would wish we had something like that from Skadi's first weeks.

Alfa - day 32

Let's start this day's blog entry with this little "education-video". It nice to see how Skadi and Isa playfully educate the small ones. Fortunately we still have a nice weather most of the time, which makes it possible for the dogs to spend some time outside the house.

The last days we had multiple visitors which was both - a nice exercice for the puppies and an increase of stress for the adult dogs. While I think that Skadi managed it quite well and stayed relatively relaxed, Isa suffered a bit from all this excitement - it was simply too much for her.
The biggest surprise was Skadi's acceptance of a completely foreign dog. The future owners of Arn, who visited us from Thursday to Saturday, had their 6 month old Saarloos-female Kaya with them. Skadi even allowed her to play with the puppies for a while, first intervening when the romp got to wild. Then she showed with distinct short signals that the game was over - a pretty amazing souvereign social behavior.

Today we dewormed the puppies for the second time. This means that we had to weigh them out of sequence and of course I will make these new weights public.
