For those of you who might think that Skadi's just lying around all the time (I admit that this impression is quite natural when you look at the pictures of the last days...) - here's the proof! She is still very active, even if she probably is a bit less agile cause of her huge belly and weight. She has gained something around 9 kilos, even Isa gained weight - I guess it was a bit too much food maybe. We have to pay a lot of attention to her now, because she trying harder and harder to creep under or into every hole or gap - outside and inside the house.Naturally we don't want her to get her pups under our entrance-way, which means we have to keep our eyes open all the time. This is the place she would choose for whelping:
Even if I can understand this really instinctive coice in a way - Keep on dreaming, Skadi! Her temperatures today were 37,5°C (morning) and 37,6°C in the evening - so no puppy-warning for the next 24 hours...
So, now we have the 56th day which means the puppies are viable now - so, more or less ready to be born. This means that we slowly enter the hot phase - in one week the first swedish puppies should already be born!So far it seems that we have some time left, Skadi will take her time. Her temperature today was 37,4°C in the morning and 37,6°C in the evening, so pretty the same measures as the days before.Since today Skadi also gets Pulsatilla (homeopathic remedy to support the last days of pregnancy - we gave it once a day to her since the 50th day) two times a day.She was a bit less hungry today - but still hungry enough ;)
If I look at this chubby belly, I'm not sure if there aren't really more than 4 pups inside...
We had two really nice spring days, spending most of the time outside of the house.Nothing new or considerable has happend, so it's just the measured temperatures which are worth a post.Yesterday her temperature was 37,7°C in the morning and 37,4°C in the evening.Today it was 37,5°C in the morning and tonight it's 37,4°C again, so the measures are pretty constant - everything is as it should.
Well, the time is running now. Yesterday we felt the first moves of the puppies and today we saw the first drops of milk! For the rest we had a really nice spring day, being outside from morning to evening...We started to take her temperature tonight - 37,7°C.
Well, it looks like spring has finally come - what a perfect time to be pregnant... The picture was taken today, showing obvious signs of what is going on. Skadi has now an abdominal girth of nearly 90cm, which is an immense increase. She is unbelieveable affectionate and of course hungry like a wolf. Today is the 48th day of the pregnancy and this means, it's time to look for potential puppy-owners soon.
You can (try to ;)) contact us day and night: Mail: howlingnorthwind@brunnsberga.com or ring: 004650221191 We speak german, swedish and english.
Actually we prefer E-Mails - we are used to be outside alot when the weather is good - so you could have bad luck when trying to ring - but you can send us your number and we will ring you back.
Since we wanted to give Skadi the chance to get used to the whelping box in the right time, we finished it already one week ago. And she is taking the chance and enjoys it on a regular basis. With it's 1,20m x 1,20m this is now the dominating piece of furniture in our living room. Against all expectations it is only Skadi who uses the box - Isa stays outside. It seems they have a kind of agreement that this one is "for pregnant bitches only"!
